Lisa Farnell
Senior Engineer
Lisa joined Design Fire Consultants in October 2018. She holds a BSc in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering, and an MSc in Applied and Industrial Mathematics. She specialises in using mathematical techniques to optimise fire strategies for her clients, including developing alternative solutions to address occupancy limitations and escape routes. This is particularly useful for heritage and large assembly buildings where following prescriptive guidance is not always possible.
Lisa has worked in both Toronto, Canada and in London, and has gained experience across a wide range of sectors including office, residential, retail, heritage, assembly, and transit. Project highlights include The Bow Tower in Calgary, St. Michael’s Mount in Cornwall, Toronto’s Union Station, and Royal Festival Hall in London. Her creative solutions for St Michael’s Mount and Royal Festival Hall earned her recognition in the annual SFPE UK Chapter ‘Best Fire Strategy’ awards in 2016 and 2017.
