Project Description
DFC has produced the detailed fire strategy for the Steel City student residence development in Sheffield. Located across 6 low-rise blocks, accommodation is provided through a combination of studios, one and two-bedroom apartments, and townhouse living. Located on a very constricted city-centre site, the key challenge for the fire strategy was the limited vehicle access for fire fighting. In conjunction with the project’s Building Control authority and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue service, the chosen solution was based on suppression throughout the residencies. DFC also assessed the location of the studio cooking facilities in relation to escape routes, and adopted a suitable monitoring system to prevent fires originating from the hob area.
