Project Description
The second of two hotels at 55 Portland Street, Manchester is a 19 storey building operated by Dalata Hotel Group.
A key design aspiration was the open connection between the lower three storeys to create a sense of space and volume. The voids presented a risk to means of escape and fire spread between floors. DFC developed the fire strategy for the building and provided advice on means of escape from the void spaces. DFC also conducted a desktop study into the likelihood of a full compartment fire within the connecting storeys and subsequently carried out a thermal radiation assessment to determine the maximum unprotected area permitted on the elevations to assist the desire for a largely glazed frontage to the building.
